If you think celebrity life is all about shine and glamor, you better think again. Some of the best actors need to make big transformations for their roles, and when they talk about the ways they lost so many pounds so quickly, they usually give different answers. In most cases, these weight losses are result of enormous pressure, craving for the Oscar award and merciless entertainment industry. The extreme measures these celebrities take sometimes pay off more and sometimes less, but the results are always incredible. Both men and women look kind of scary after these transformations and they often admit that they had a negative impact on their health.

1. Christian Bale had to lose basically all weight he once had for psychological thriller role in The Machinist. During the preparation period, Christian ate only an apple and a can of tuna a day. If you think this is too rigid, wait to hear he did this for months. The results were scary and great in the same time. He achieved what he wanted for the role, but his appearance and his health were not so great.

2. Megan Fox has gone through a severe transformation. Even though veganism can’t really be considered a crash diet, Megan has dropped some serious weight. She explain her diet as raw and very strict. For year and a half, she followed a strict vegan diet based only on raw vegetables and fruits. She didn’t eat any bread, sugar and she drank no coffee for all that time. Results? Megan has lost too much weight.

3. Amanda Seyfried is another Hollywood star who has gone through crash diet in order to look skinnier. Mean girls star admits it wasn’t easy to be so disciplined all the time. She says it is an intense journey and kind of awful, too. What does Amanda eat for lunch? Spinach. What else is she eating? Well, mostly spinach and some seeds. It makes you wonder if being skinny is so much more important than a normal meal.

4. Hilary Duff admits being obsessed with her weight (or dropping some at least) while she was a teenager. Teenagers easily get trapped by looking at their bodies wrong. The period of adolescence is hard because all of the psychological and physical changes. Hilary say it wasn’t any easier for her and her method of staying extremely thin is to eat steamed vegetables and grilled chicken. Nowadays, Hilary is more into being healthy than superskinny.

5. While preparing for the role of dying woman in Sweet November, Charlize Theron had to lose too much weight. This kind of crash diet wasn’t easy at all, Charlize admits. Her diet consisted of totally avoiding starches, dinner and generally food after 5 o’clock. She didn’t drink any alcohol at all and she did a lot of yoga. Also, Charlize did a lot of running, which helped her to take her mind off the hungry stomach.

6. Natasha Henstridge has lost a ton of weight thanks to, believe it or not, diet pills! The Species star has tried out different pills and supplements in order to lose weight, and she admits that wasn’t the smartest choice she could make. Initially, she went to a Chinese herbalist who gave her some herbs and acupuncture. Natasha thought it would be good for her, but she lost too much weight and made a big mistake.

7. Matt Damon looked incredibly skinny in Courage Under Fire. Famous actor said that his regimen wasn’t so easy during his preparation period. He had to run six and a half miles in the morning and again in the evening. Only meals he was allowed to eat were chicken breasts, egg whites and one plain baked potato per day. Also, Matt admits drinking large amounts of coffee and smoking too many cigarettes.

Ellen Chan has denied the rumours claiming that she tried to conceive a child with Johnson Lee through an in-vitro fertilisation treatment. It was said that Ellen was one of the main reasons why Johnson broke up with his former girlfriend, Lukian Wang.

She pointed out that she would be unable to receive in-vitro fertilization anyway, as the Hong Kong government only allows registered couples who are unable to conceive naturally to be qualified to receive the treatment.

The actress also shot down the rumors claiming that she has been dating Johnson, saying that she is currently very single.

As Chan talks about her business, however, and her love for deco bling, the air of a starlet is gone and the conversation reveals a down-to-earth young woman who is passionate about her crafts and all things girly. “The shop comes from my passion for deco bling,” Chan says, referring to the mosaic art hobby that she discovered six years ago in Japan and eventually turned into a business opportunity. “I saw these girls holding catalogs of gorgeous jeweled cell phones on the street[in Tokyo],” Chan recounts. “They were actually advertising a service where they decorate your cell phone, using all sorts of gems, plastic pearls, flowers and other trinkets. I wanted to create a space where customers could also come in and sit through a DIY workshop to make their own creations using these crystals.”

In the same issue of Science as Kaplan's review of Sex and War, there is a News/Focus article on the evolutionary history of Neanderthals and Homo sapiens.

The standard view has been that Neanderthals and modern humans shared a common ancestor, most likely in Africa, something less that 500,000 years ago. The population that became the Neanderthals was first to migrate into Europe and western Asia a few hundred thousand years ago, where they lived unmolested until H. Sapiens appeared on the scene about 40,000 years ago. The two species of humans lived side by side for 10,000 years until the Neanderthals were driven into a final refuge -- southern Spain -- where they became extinct. The evidence seems to suggest an unharmonious relationship between Neanderthals and H. Sapiens, an early chapter, perhaps, of sex and war.

Recent fossil finds have complicated the picture. Some anthropologists now believe that two or more hominid species might have lived in Europe and western Asia before H. sapiens came sweeping out of Africa. More sex and war, no doubt, more competition for resources, more chances to practice the fine art of killing. In these earlier hypothesized encounters, Neanderthals came out on top, driving the other populations to extinction, only to be vanquished in turn by our own immediate ancestors.

They aren't us, but they aren't all that not-us either. In the drawing, they look rather like they are posing for a group photo at a family reunion. Did they have language? Religion? Did they bury their dead? Did they sing and dance? We have lots left to learn. In any case, once H. sapiens moved into their territory, they were soon gone.

War? Likely. Rape? Mate capture? As far as I know, there is no widely-accepted evidence of interbreeding between H. sapiens and their Euro-Asian predecessors, although the complete sequencing of Neanderthal DNA may yet have more to tell us.

I keep coming back to that haunting drawing of the Sima de los Huesos humans. Modern humans don't have to learn sex and war; it would appear to be in our genes, and probably in their genes too. Learning to love the other is rather more problematic.

Well Vanity Fair has scored a big coup: they've got Jennifer Lawrence on the cover of the November issue of the magazine, giving her first statement since her nude photos were stolen from her.

As the magazine proudly touts in a preview of the issue, which is out on Wednesday, though writer Sam Kashner interviewed Lawrence before the photos were put on the internet, he called her later in the hopes that she'd comment further, outside of the statement her lawyer made.

In the piece, Lawrence said she considered releasing a statement, some sort of apology, when she found out about the photos getting out, but realized "I don't have anything to say I'm sorry for. I was in a loving, healthy, great relationship for four years. It was long distance, and either your boyfriend is going to look at porn or he's going to look at you."

"Just because I'm a public figure, just because I'm an actress, does not mean that I asked for this," she says. "It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It's my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can't believe that we even live in that kind of world."

Additionally, she specifically addresses the legality of sites like Reddit, etc. that allowed the photos to be posted in the first place. (Fun fact: Reddit was once owned by Condé Nast's parent company Advance Publications and Advance is still a major shareholder in Reddit. As Reddit describes it, they are a "part-sibling-once-removed" of Condé Nast.):

"Anybody who looked at those pictures, you're perpetuating a sexual offense. You should cower with shame. Even people who I know and love say, 'Oh, yeah, I looked at the pictures.' I don't want to get mad, but at the same time I'm thinking, I didn't tell you that you could look at my naked body."

Johnson Lee has been making headlines ever since the critical success of his show Office of Practical Jokes. Recently there are claims that Johnson is cheating on girlfriend Lukian Wong with 47-year-old movie actress Ellen Chan.

Johnson and Ellen have been good friends for quite some time, and earlier Johnson had invited Ellen to star in a film he is planning to direct. Two weeks ago, at a farewell party for TVB actor Q Bobo, Johnson was seen shouting, “Ellen Chan is now my woman!” The two were also frequently seen visiting at each other’s homes late into the night, fueling speculations about their secret love affair. Johnson and Ellen quickly denied the rumors. Both parties emphasized that they are close friends and explained that they were simply having business meetings to discuss Johnson’s newly-created production company.

On Wednesday, reporters spotted Johnson and Ellen acting intimately as they left another farewell party for Q Bobo. The two arrived at the party together earlier in the evening. At around two o’clock in the morning, Ellen hurriedly left the bar in anger. Q Bobo and Johnson quickly ran after her, but Q Bobo failed to console Ellen despite many attempts. Johnson came to the rescue however. He immediately reached out for Ellen’s hand, blew into her ear seductively, and gave her a quick kiss. Ellen soon calmed down at Johnson’s gestures and became cheerful once again.

After awhile, Ellen became agitated for a second time. Johnson said a few words to her and she immediately went over and wrapped her arms around his neck. Ellen was then seen licking Johnson’s ears and kissed him repeatedly. The two later flagged down a taxi to go home, and made out heatedly during the ten-minute ride. Ellen reportedly sat on Johnson’s lap at one point as she continued to attack him with passionate kisses. Johnson later accompanied Ellen to her home and did not leave the residence for the rest of the night.

Kendall Jenner is having the best year ever. From her New York Fashion Week catwalk debut to her Vogue shoot and new book release (with sister Kylie Jenner), the 18-year-old is constantly making headlines. And she just nabbed another big magazine spread. Jenner poses sans top (and sans nearly everything else) in the new issue of Interview.

“To be honest, this is exactly what I wanted to be,” the 18-year-old star, who covers her chest and dons a sleek cat eye in the provocative new shoot, says of her modeling career. “I was always looking up to supermodels. They were, like, my superheroes.”

Jenner explains that her determination and work ethic stem from the constant support of her parents, Bruce and Kris Jenner.

“My dad is my everything. He always had the craziest speeches for Kylie and me growing up, good words to live by,” she shared, adding, “My parents brought up Kylie and me to be workaholics. That’s something I really appreciate.”

The newbie model also reveals that she picked up some serious high jump skills from her Olympian dad. “I don’t really remember, but my friend just showed me this video of when I was on the track team. I got the school record for high jump. My dad was so proud of me.” (With her lean legs and athletic body type, we’d totally peg Jenner as a track star.)
